October to April: The Classic Season
This is when Egypt and Jordan are at their best. In Cairo and Luxor, expect sunny days of 20–28°C and cool evenings — perfect for the Pyramids, the Valley of the Kings, and long afternoons on a Nile cruise deck. In Jordan, Petra and Wadi Rum sit at altitude, so winter days are crisp (Petra can even see snow in January) and spring wildflowers appear in March. December and January are peak season at the major sites; book cruises and guides two to three months ahead.
May to September: Heat, Space, and Value
Summer afternoons in Luxor and Aswan regularly pass 40°C — but mornings are calm, the temples are quiet, and prices drop noticeably. Visits simply start earlier: sunrise at Karnak is one of Egypt’s great experiences. The Red Sea coast (Hurghada, Sharm El-Sheikh) is superb in summer, with sea breezes and warm, clear water for snorkeling and diving. In Jordan, Aqaba and the Dead Sea are hot but manageable; Wadi Rum nights stay surprisingly cool in the desert.
