The Pyramids of Giza and the rose-red city of Petra can be combined by flying from Cairo to Amman and continuing by road, yet many travelers see them on separate trips. Combining Egypt and Jordan in one journey is easier than it looks, and it turns two bucket-list destinations into a single unforgettable week. Here is how we build it.
The Route That Works
The proven shape is Cairo first, Jordan second. Spend three days in Cairo: the Pyramids and Sphinx at Giza, the Grand Egyptian Museum, Saqqara’s step pyramid, and an evening in the old city’s bazaars. Then fly from Cairo to Amman and head straight for the highlights: a full day inside Petra, a float in the Dead Sea at the lowest point on Earth, and — if you can add a night — a 4×4 sunset and Bedouin camp in Wadi Rum.
A Day-by-Day 7-Day Itinerary
Days 1–3, Cairo: arrival, Giza plateau and the museum, Saqqara and Old Cairo. Day 4: morning flight to Amman, continue to Petra by road (allow around three hours, depending on the route and traffic). Day 5: Petra in full — the Siq, the Treasury, the Monastery climb for the fit and curious. Day 6: Dead Sea morning, Amman or airport hotel. Day 7: fly home or back to Cairo. Our Egypt & Jordan — Cairo, Petra & Dead Sea tour follows a similar route. Confirm flight and transfer inclusions in your quote.
Visas and Border Practicalities
Entry requirements depend on your nationality, passport, route, and length of stay. Check the official Egypt e-Visa portal for current eligibility and document requirements. The official Jordan Pass FAQ explains when an eligible visitor may have Jordanian visa fees waived; the pass is not itself a visa. Before departure, verify the rules for your passport with the relevant authorities. Our team can help you plan the itinerary around those requirements.
Ways to Extend
With ten days you can slot a 3- or 4-night Nile cruise between Cairo and Jordan — Luxor, Edfu, Kom Ombo, Aswan — which many guests call the best decision of the trip. Beach lovers finish in Aqaba or Sharm El-Sheikh on the Red Sea. And because we also design private trips to Dubai and Turkey, a three-country route — Cairo, Petra, Istanbul — is absolutely doable in two weeks.
